Chesterton Day 2025

On Saturday 14th June 2025 we commemorated the 89th anniversary of the death of the great Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton.

In testimony to the high esteem in which GK. Chesterton is held, a large number of people braved the torrential rain to attend our event – and, in true Chestertonian style, expressed delight with the hospitality extended to them by the Library.

The day commenced with a very entertaining and inspiring introduction to Chesterton’s life and work from an old friend of the Library, Ben O’Floinn. Some time was allotted for attendees to share their favourite short quotations from, or memories of, the great man.

Speakers Matteo Mazzariol and James Bradshaw, in separate papers, addressed the topic of “Distributism: past and future”. There followed a very lively discussion on various aspects of distributism.

The day was a great success and we hope DV that we can celebrate the great man’s 90th anniversary in 2026.
